Searching for an online Quran academy in the UK brings up a long list of names, and from the outside many of them look much the same. The differences only show up once you start asking questions: how lessons are scheduled, who the teacher will be, what happens if a slot stops working, and exactly what the monthly fee covers. This guide sets out the questions worth asking any academy before you hand over money, including us, and what a clear answer sounds like.
1. Is there a proper free trial, and what does it involve?
A single taster session tells you very little. Your child may be nervous, the internet may drop, or the time of day may simply be wrong. Ask how many trial lessons you get, whether they are live with a real teacher, and whether you need to give card details first.
A good answer is specific: a set number of live lessons, one-to-one, with no payment details taken up front. Ours is three free live lessons, with no card needed, so you can judge the teacher and the routine across more than one day. You can book the 3-day free trial here.
2. Are lesson times confirmed in UK time?
Many online academies teach students in several countries. That is fine, but it means you should check that your lesson time is agreed and confirmed in UK time, and that you know what happens when the clocks change between GMT and BST in March and October. A missed lesson because of a time-zone mix-up is frustrating, especially for a child who was ready and waiting.
We confirm every lesson time in UK time, so the time you book is the time you sit down.
3. How flexible is the schedule?
UK family life rarely fits a fixed timetable. School finishes at different times, clubs change each term, and many parents work shifts. Ask an academy:
- Which hours do you actually teach? Is early morning or late evening possible?
- Can lessons move if our routine changes next term?
- Do you offer weekends, or fewer days a week, and how is that priced?
We teach 24/7, so the lesson time is chosen around your week rather than ours. Our standard plan covers Monday to Friday. Weekends, three days a week and other patterns are custom and agreed with our team.
4. Can you choose a male or female teacher?
For many UK families this is not a small detail. Sisters, mothers and young girls often prefer a female teacher, and some boys and men prefer a male teacher. Ask whether you can request either, and whether that request is confirmed before the first lesson.
We have both male and female teachers available, and you can state your preference on the trial form. Our female Quran teacher page explains more.
5. Will it be the same teacher each time?
Quran reading improves fastest when the teacher knows the student: which letters they confuse, how they respond to correction, and when they are getting tired. Ask whether your child will have a regular teacher, and what happens if the match does not feel right. A good academy will treat a change of teacher as a normal request, not a complaint.
6. Are classes one-to-one or in a group?
Some academies advertise low prices for group classes. That can work for some subjects, but in Quran reading the teacher needs to hear every letter each student reads. In a group, your child may get only a few minutes of individual attention. Ask plainly how many students are in each lesson. All of our classes are one-to-one.
7. What do safeguarding and privacy look like?
When a stranger is teaching your child over video, you are entitled to ask direct questions, and a trustworthy academy will be glad you did. Useful ones include:
- Are cameras on for both the teacher and the student throughout the lesson?
- Can a parent sit in on any lesson, not just the trial?
- How do lessons take place, and who can join the call?
- Who do I contact if something does not feel right, and how quickly will I hear back?
In our lessons both cameras stay on, the teacher shares the Quran page on screen, and parents are always welcome to sit beside their child. If any academy is vague or defensive about these questions, take that seriously.
8. How will you know your child is making progress?
Monthly fees are easy to keep paying without noticing that very little is changing. Ask how progress is shared with parents and how often. You want to know what your child is working on now, what comes next, and anything you can help with at home. Regular progress updates for parents are part of our plan.
9. Does the academy assess the student's level?
Learners arrive at very different points. A seven-year-old may be starting the Arabic letters from scratch, while a teenager might read fluently but need Tajweed correction, and an adult might be returning after years away. Ask whether the academy assesses the student first or simply places them by age. The trial lessons are where we check the student's level and suggest the right course, whether that is Noorani Qaida, Quran reading, Tajweed or Hifz.
10. Are the fees clear, in pounds, with nothing hidden?
Ask exactly what the monthly fee covers: how many days a week, which courses, and whether anything is charged separately. If prices are only shown in another currency, ask what you will actually pay in pounds.
Ours is simple: £30 per month for Monday to Friday classes. Other schedules, such as weekends or fewer days a week, are custom and discussed with our team. Full details are on our fees page.

Put us to the same test
You are welcome to ask us every question on this list. Our about page explains how we run our classes, and the easiest way to judge us is to see a lesson for yourself. Book a 3-day free trial, choose the days and UK time that suit you, and tell us if you would prefer a female or male teacher. Fees after the trial are £30/month for Monday to Friday classes; other schedules are custom.
